
Hannes Läubin received his first lessons from his father at the age of 9.
In 1971 and 1973 he won first prizes in the national competition in the “solo category”, in 1973 and 1975 in the “group category”, and in 1974 he won second prize in the international “Concertino Praga” competition.
From 1971 to 1976 he was a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra and a junior student at the Freiburg/Breisgau University of Music, where he received trumpet lessons from Prof. Robert Bodenröder.
In September 1976 he took up the position of third trumpeter in the NDR Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed solo trumpeter two years later. After 16 years of membership, he was given a professorship at the Stuttgart University of Music in 1992. Since January 1995 he has been a permanent substitute in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Lorin Maazel, and since October 2003 Mariss Jansons. In October 1996 he accepted a professorship at the Munich University of Music.
After 25 years, he ended his work with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2020 in order to be able to concentrate fully on his work as a teacher. He regularly works as a teacher in Japan and China.
In March 2025 he will retire as a professor and devote himself to freelance musical activities.
He has recorded several records for Deutsche Grammophon with his two brothers, trumpet, and Simon Preston on the organ and as conductor of the English Chamber Orchestra. He has also recorded with German Brass for EMI, and with various labels with the Gächinger Kantorei under Helmuth Rilling and the Windsbacher Knabenchor under Karl-Friedrich Beringer.
As a soloist he has played at many international festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Quiberon Festival, the Bach Academy Venezuela, the Oregon Bach Festival, and many others.
He is a member of the brass ensemble “The Philharmonic Brass”, which has a busy concert schedule and CD productions, including with Riccardo Muti and Tugan Sokhiev.
In 2003 he was a juror at the international ARD competition in Munich, which will be the case again in 2025.
